"Remember not the former things Behold, I am doing a NEW THING; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."
Isaiah 43:18-19
God is our greatest example of innovation. He is continually making things anew.
"… his mercies never come to an end; THEY ARE NEW every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23
Life is a series of "resets" that "restart" your future. The successful Christian is willing to reinvent themselves every so often to stay fresh and fully useful.
A brand new year is about to start; How I love fresh starts and new beginnings! In fact, I am one of those that look forward to Monday mornings because they are markers in my daily progression. Similarly, this year could be an inflection point for you, the year your life changes. The year that you fulfill something incredible in your life. Don't underestimate fresh starts; They're a chance to reset in life and jump-start your purpose.
If you're going to reset to restart this new year, here are some things to think about:
1. Everyone Needs A Reset
It doesn't matter who you are; you need to reset yourself every few years. We are creatures of habit, and these habits can sometimes keep us stuck in old ways. Things change, and you need to change as well. A Pastor friend of mine put it this way, "If you don't update, you'll outdate." I love that thought. You have to stay fresh no matter who you are or your age. God's not through with you until you're through. If you don't stay in the flow of progress, you dissipate in a puddle of decay.
"If you don't update, you'll outdate."
2. Everyone's Needs A Challenge
When we stop challenging ourselves to move forward, we start moving backward. No one stays the same; we either move forward into progress or fall back into paralysis.
We are either getting better or getting worse.
We know this is true by just observing our mental health. Research has shown that our brain power actually starts decaying when we're not working. Anything left unattended starts to break down over time. We need new challenges and goals to keep us on the path to our God-established destiny, so it's essential to reset goals every so often to stay fresh.
Anything left unattended starts to break down over time.
3. Everyone Needs A Plan
Through the process of planning for the future, we discover a new purpose. When we catch a vision of what "could be," it activates faith within.
We need to develop a road map for where we want our lives to end. Our existence is far too important to live just hoping for the best. It is vital to connect with God's will for our life. We need to be intentional about it.
Setting goals and plans are a way to ensure our life is impactful and influential to its full capacity.
No one on their deathbed ever wished to have done less. No, they typically wanted to have done more with their life. Planning for the future is visionary, and as Solomon reminded us in Proverbs 29:18, "Without vision people perish."
We need to prayerfully develop a road map for where we want to end up.
Happy New Year!
