"But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me." Luke 10:40
With so many distractions hovering over our daily lives is very easy to lose focus from the MOST IMPORTANT. Distractions eat away our time (and attention) like parasites. They often go unnoticed; however, the damage they cause us is unmistakable.
Martha is a perfect example. Jesus was visiting their house, and she lost focus on the presence of the most important person in our lives...The Lord.
We are approaching the end of a year and soon to begin a new one. I believe it's time to start fresh and do a good ol' soul and spirit cleansing.
Successful people maintain a positive focus in life no matter what is going on around them. They stay focused on their past successes rather than their past failures, and on the next action steps they need to take to get them closer to the fulfillment of their goals rather than all the other distractions that life presents to them.
– Jack Canfield
The most important things for a believer ought to be:
GOD - deepening our relationship through prayer, Bible study, ministry involvement, giving.
FAMILY - spending quality time. Talking, laughing, vacations, going to church, praying together.
WORK - improving the knowledge of your trade or profession.
BODY - exercising, healthy diet, rest, hydration.
Distractions to avoid:
SOCIAL MEDIA - By far, the biggest distraction of all for the majority of people. Social media has indeed brought people together to some degree,…but it has also been designed to distract us. Worse, most of who and what we follow are pure time sinks.
SMARTPHONES - Social aside even, our smartphones serve as a huge source of distraction in our daily life. There's email, games, and quick access to the latest world news, gossip, and market info. All of these things together make your smartphone both a valuable and dangerous double-edged sword.
MEDIA - By media, I'm referring mainly to watching TV and videos online. There are some valuable and time-worthy things you can watch both online and on television. However, many believers spend too much time watching TV shows and YouTube videos that don't provide real value.
PEOPLE - While our call is to win souls for God's kingdom at the same time, we need to be very selective with people we associate with. Carnal associations serve as constant distractions to your goals and dreams that leech away at your God-given joy and happiness.
Don't let distractions keep you from happiness and fulfillment:
Distractions do more than hurt our productivity. They make it harder to stick to our goals and often keep us from living a life guided by the Spirit of God.
If you desire to live a life to please God, you can't afford to let these distractions take hold.
"Fixing your eyes on Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith..." Hebrews 12:2.
Have a blessed week,
