“Making the best use of the time, because the days are evil” Ephesians 5:16
You may be old enough to remember the national drug campaign led by First Lady Nancy Reagan in the 1980s; Its slogan was “Just Say No!” The advertisement focused on the importance of saying “No” to peer pressure in the context of illegal drugs. The phrase “Just Say No” first emerged when Nancy Reagan visited Longfellow Elementary School in Oakland, California, and was asked by a schoolgirl what to do if she was offered drugs. The first lady responded by saying, “Just say no.”
I. JUST SAY NO
“Just Say No” is more than an illegal drug campaign, though; every believer should also adopt it when it comes to their schedule and the use of their time.
If you don’t know how to say “No” to trivial worldly things, you’ll never be able to say “Yes” to the essential things in life.
II. DON'T JUST ADD
It is sad to see believers add activities to their daily and weekend schedules that subtract time from the essentials for Holy Ghost-filled people.
Don’t give up your time of prayer and Bible reading for something of lesser value.
If you keep on adding activities to your daily and weekly schedule, you will eventually collapse from the weight of too much baggage.
III. DON’T BE A TIME HOARDER
Only adding but never subtracting from your schedule will gradually evolve you into a time hoarder.
Eventually, you will become unproductively consumed with the “busyness” of a cluttered life.
You will be overwhelmed with the chaos of your activities.
You’ll increasingly become less of a Spirit-led person if your schedule gets too cluttered.
Today, most believers are saying “Yes” to the things they shouldn’t be doing and “No” to the things they should be doing.
Even when saying “Yes” to good things, we may inadvertently be saying “No” to the things that are best for our families and us.
Give yourself to the things that matter most and bring the most return.
Think about how the Lord Jesus invested His time. When asked what He was doing, Jesus said, “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.” John 5:19-20.
The Lord only did what He saw the Father doing. He was purposeful with His time and His actions. If you are going to fulfill your God-given potential and all you are capable of, you must do only the things which constitute the best use of your time. Say “NO” to the good and say “YES” to the best!
Have a blessed week,
Pastor (Rev. Elias Limones)
