2021-06-14 READING THE BIBLE IS ESSENTIAL - Weekly Devotional from Rev. Elias Limones

"It is written: Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God." Mathew 4:4

Charles Spurgeon once said, "A Bible that's falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn't."

The Word of God is essential in your life. It's not a supplement to your spirituality. It's not a snack for your spiritual well-being. It's your life source. You can't honestly know God fully without knowing His Word.

Unfortunately, Christians get so busy with life that many of them forget to open up His Word. As a result, it's easy to slip into bad habits and stop digging into our life source.

So, how do we kick-start our spirituality? How do we get to a place where we are devouring the Word of God? Because when we get into the Word of God, the Word of God gets into us. And when it's in us, it always produces a fruitful result.

Here are some tips:

1. Get A Plan

If you fail to plan, you might as well plan to fail.

You will never get into the Word if you don't have a plan for how you are going to do it. So start with a challenge to yourself.

Start small and work your way up. Don't start with trying to read too much and too often. Just discipline yourself to do something attainable. Maybe it's reading a chapter a week. Perhaps it's a verse a day. Whatever you do, make it consistent with a plan. "The Bible Project" is one of the best programs I've come across for a reading plan that helps you dig into the Word of God…start there. They even have a section about "How to read the Bible." It is a great resource to delve into God's Word in a practical way.

2. Get A Place

Have a specific place where you read the Bible and meditate on God's Word.

Find a place where you feel alive and comfortable to receive. Be intentional about creating a space or making time for a place to focus; where you do what you do matters. Jesus got away and went to gardens; He went to mountaintops; He went to quiet areas where He could pray and dig in. We shouldn't be any different. So follow His leading and get a place where you go to get into the Word of God.

3. Get in a Group

Don't just read the Word of God; surround yourself with people to share what you learn from it.

We have weekly Home Groups Meetings where church members share the Word with friends, relatives, and others like precious faith.

Get an accountability partner or a friend to share what you're learning. It's not enough just to read God's Word; we need to apply it and share it with others.

Have outlets to convey what God is teaching you; it will help you close the loop on your learning. We retain the most when we share what we've learned.

These are just some simple tips to get into the Word of God. Come up with your own and start opening the door for God to speak to you through His Word, and it will change your future!

Have a Blessed Week,

Pastor (Rev. Elias Limones)
