“So faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the word of God.”
Romans 10:17
We just experienced our first Fall showers that turned into a rainstorm. According to the meteorologist, a total of 10 inches of water fell upon Northern California during a 24-hour span.
When I was a kid living in Quito, in the Andes of Ecuador, my mom would send my brothers and me (all her seven children) to bed early during rainy nights (there were no television or Internet or cell phones back in the 50’s and early 60’s). During those rainy nights, I devoured Bible stories and couldn’t put the Bible down. I kept reading and highlighting these amazing passages that were speaking to my little heart. To this day, I credit a big part of my faith foundation to those rainy nights when I was a child. They paved the path for faith to flow through my life.
1. Faith comes to us as we hear the Word of God.
The more we hear it, the more faith awakens within us. And there is a big difference between listening and hearing.
Listening is simply the act of our ears picking up a signal. Hearing is when that signal transforms our hearts.
Listening is physical; hearing is spiritual.
Many people listen to the Word of God, but only a few hear the Word of God.
When we hear the Word of God, it revolutionizes our entire outlook on life.
“A Bible that’s falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn’t.”
Charles H. Spurgeon
2. The Bible is more than just informational text; it’s transformational living.
It is vital for us believers to immerse ourselves in God’s Word.
The more we get into the Word of God, the more the Word of God gets into us.
In fact, it is impossible to know God without knowing His Word fully.
If we genuinely want great faith, it takes a significant commitment to His Word.
Conclusion:
We must commit to seeking Him with all our hearts. This commitment means hearing His Word, not just listening to it. Don’t say God has been silent when your Bible has been closed. God’s Word has everything you need for exactly what you’re going through. It will raise your faith to where it needs to be.
Have a blessed week,
